Located on the south west coast, Playa de Taurito is an ideal holiday destination for families and couples seeking a relaxing holiday in a tranquil setting.
The natural black sandy beach offers a great place to chill out and relax and with shallow calm waters it is great for children to paddle and play. An alternative to the beach is the towns lido where for a small entrance fee visitors can enjoy a large lagoon style swimming pool, sun terraces, bars in attractive surroundings dotted with palm trees.
The night life here is fairly low key with most visitors spending their evenings enjoying a meal or drink in one of the resorts restaurants or bars. For a livelier evening the bustling resort of Puerto Rico with its vast range of bars and restaurants is just 8 km away.
The resort is situated approx 53 km from the airport.
Insider's View
Taurito is a little piece of heaven tucked away in a crack in the cliffs on the south-west coastline of Gran Canaria. True, it's one of those strange places that no-one seems to know about unless they've used the bus service which runs down to Puerto de Mogán.
The bus drives past or rather right round the top edge of this hidden cove and all the passengers usually go ohh-ahh when it does. Whether the sighs are over the glint of blue far down below in the fantastic swimming pool complexes or more from sheer panic as the bus takes the final bend who knows, I've usually got my eyes shut.
Sheltered by the walls of a rocky ravine, this sun-trap has its own black sand beach which is always uncrowded and often completely deserted. If you enjoy doing a lot of water-sports on your summer holiday then Taurito isn't a bad choice. With both diving and jet-skis readily available as well as fun pedal boats. Yes, the ones you wish you'd never rented because they make your legs ache after you've been afloat for ten minutes, but don't the kids just love them!
I've often brought the kids down to here to use the pools. You have to pay a small entrance fee, but it's well worth it. My two love the fun water-slides. Its not Aqualand, but it's easier to keep an eye on them, the floor doesn't burn your feet in the summer and you don't have to queue for ages just to scream and get wet. Snack-food and drinks are very cheap which is another big plus in its favour.
This is more of a place for quiet family holidays, when you don't need much night time entertainment, because in Taurito most nocturnal activities take place inside the actual hotels. Apart from the well laid out mini-golf coming to life after dark, there's not much else in the vicinity. If you do want to let your hair down, Puerto Rico or Puerto de Mogán are both within easy travelling distance.
