Salobre Golf Holidays

Travel Agent's View

Travel Agents View Situated to the south of the island, Salobre Golf is as you can guess from the name a golfers dream resort. With two 18 hole courses which are overlooked by luxury hotels the resort is not only for golfers but also those who want to enjoy a relaxing holiday in superb surroundings.

Away from the golf course, horse riding and walking are popular activities here and are a great way to see the countryside. The mountain location affords stunning views all the way down to the coast.

The popular tourist resorts of Maspalomas is just 6 km away and offers a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants as well as a beautiful sandy beach.

The resort is situated approx 37 km from the airport.

Insider's View

Gran Canaria Insider If I have to be honest (and I will be, just in case I get caught out!) with not being a golf fan, I hadn't been to Salobre for quite a while and if you're not into golf there's not a lot of other reasons to go there. Last time I visited it was just opening up the second nine holes and I ran out of fingers totting up the new total of eighteen.

Right alongside a metal cut out of an emblematic Canary Island Spurge, or spiky cactus to you and me, at the entrance to Salobre Golf is a sign which says "Feel the warm side of life" and I wondered if it wasn't a statement put there to get the golfers worked into a sweat before they started putting or maybe it's an overt climatic warning.

My first impression was, isn't it posh! All those lovely private villas. You know, the sort which would make your bank manager swoon and go a funny colour if you asked for a mortgage on one. I drooled over the acres of well-trimmed lawn at their fronts, they put even Windsor Castle to shame, then I realised they were the golfing greens.

It is an isolated and verdant oasis in a landscape which is otherwise an artist's palette of ochres. A place where the silence is only broken by the swoosh of golf balls splicing the still air and the shrill call of a Kestrel as it glides aloft hunting for stray lizards basking on the rocks.

No, it's not a beach resort and it's quite some way to the nearest stretch of sand whether it be Maspalomas or Puerto Rico. Having a hire car would be recommended if you want to get out and about at all. All the entertainment facilities, (apart from the golf!), are in the accommodation, but they won't leave you wanting for much as they're all five star plus and very deluxe.
