Playa del Cura Holidays

Travel Agents View ..ideal for families and couples of all ages seeking a relaxing base yet is still close enough to the larger resorts...

Situated on the south west coast, Playa del Cura is a purpose built holiday resort ideal for families and couples of all ages seeking a relaxing base yet is still close enough to the larger resorts to take advantage of the amenities.

Within the resort there is a good selection of bars, shops and restaurants with a greater variety just 4 km away at the lively resort of Puerto Rico.

The resort has a small beach with volcanic sand and pebbles and facilities such as sun loungers for hire. Just 1 km along the coast is the resort of Playa Amordores which has lovely white sand and good beach facilities which may appeal to families better. The resort offers a good choice of holiday apartments and hotels, although many are built up in the hills which may not be suitable for those less mobile.

Popular activities in and around the resort include water sports and golf. For great family days out there are water parks, theme parks and amusements just 20km away in Maspalomas.

The resort is situated approx 49 km from the airport.

Gran Canaria Insider It's got everything you'd expect to find in a holiday place only in smaller dimensions...

Play del Cura always reminds me of the film 'Honey I've shrunk the kids'. It's got everything you'd expect to find in a holiday place only in smaller dimensions and by saying that, I don't mean your feet are going to hang over the end of the hotel bed either.

The beach is petite, with only a couple of dozen sunbeds sprinkled about which still leaves plenty of room to throw your towel. Alright, there's actually exactly twenty four, I counted them last time I was there. The good thing is a lot of people think the beach belongs to the Rivera Marina hotels and so don't use it. I'll let you in on a couple of secrets; it's not private, it's clean, the sand borders on blackish and the waves are just the right size for young kids with boogie boards.

Whatever plans they originally had for this conclave of apartments with names like El Cardinal and Monseñor, the Beach of the Curate was well elected. Don't worry, they forgot to build the church, or ran out of space for it, so there's no ringing bells to wake you up early on a Sunday morning.

The shopping centre is diminutive too, but that doesn't mean it's lacking anything. One reason I like going here is because it's so uncomplicated. You don't have to chose between twenty different places offering the same menus before you get your dinner, which takes a lot of the stress out of eating out.

El Café on the ground floor is very okay on the price front for snacks and coffee. If you fancy something meatier then the Bistro's right next door. It hasn't got a wildly exciting menu, but you're bound to find something you like.

Kitty O'Shea's and the Old Brogue take up one end of the mini-centre to liven the night-times with a bit of the old Irish. Perhaps I should call it the epicentre of Playa de Cura as this is where it's all happening, or it might do on occasion.

It would be a shame not to mention the Restaurant Guantanamo, even though it's not strictly in Playa del Cura itself, but in the neighbouring bay of Tauro. It's the most popular dining place in the whole of the Mogán region. It's sort of stuck on the edge of the old campsite and from the outside doesn't look much, but if you're planning on eating there book your table just to be on the safe side and you can't get a better recommendation than that.

Really, Playa de Cura has everything you need in a holiday resort, but in small and very digestible doses.
