A modern holiday resort, Bahia Feliz offers visitors everything needed for a relaxing holiday.
Although the night life is fairly quiet and is mainly centred around hotel entertainment, there are numerous bars, cafes and restaurants which can be found in the town square in the centre of the resort.
For those who want a livelier night out, the nearby resort of Playa del Ingles is only a 10 minute drive away and offers a greater variety of dining and entertainment venues.
The beach at Bahia Feliz does tend to be fairly quiet, partly due to the deep waters and strong tides which make it unsuitable for children, but also due to the strong winds, which incidentally make it perfect for windsurfing. Playa del Ingles beach is approx 5 km along the coast which may be better suited to families.
Bahia Feliz is located approx 27 km from the airport.
Insider's View
If I were shipwrecked on a desert island, I'd cross my fingers and hope it'd be like Bahia Feliz because it's as close to paradise as you could possibly imagine, down to the parrots chirping in the palm trees.
Bahia Feliz is Gran Canaria's best kept secret. Whiz past on the main road and it seems there isn't anything worth stopping to look at, but tucked out of sight behind the hotels is a ruggedly attractive part of the south-eastern coastline. There are so many rocky inlets with tiny, sand and stone beaches, on a weekday you'll probably manage to get one all to yourself.
Then again I could be waxing on the lyrical after sipping a Mojito in the Chiringuito, the beach bar next to the Mistral Windsurfing Club. It really is a nice place to indulge in a coffee or afternoon cocktail. The sea view is stunning and watching the surfers lug their boards out and fight against the wind to get the sails up makes you feel like having a well-earned rest.
If this isn't the first article by me you've read, then you may have realised my pet hate is shopping centres. The one in Bahia Feliz is different. Walking into it is like slipping into the streets of a small Canarian village. It's all centred around a paved square with typical Canarian-style wooden balconies decorating the upper floor. The shops and restaurants are interspersed down the alleyway-type passages which gives the whole place a unique character.
Eddie's House has a good daytime snack menu and very reasonably priced pasta in the evenings. The Ternera Loca for massive t-bone steaks has got to be mentioned, I've always been a mad cow at heart, but for an imaginative and original menu, Broken Dreams is hard to beat.
The aptly named 'Holiday Pub' is where the night action is and they've got the lot. DJ's playing dance music and a good selection of karaoke songs if you feel like letting rip after a couple of drinks. Who would ever do such a thing?
Bahia Feliz is also home to Gran Canaria's big night out, Garbo's. This is a long running dinner-show where the waiters take it in turns to sing to you. It really is a fantastic night out and well worth the pocket-lightening price. If you're planning on celebrating something special book in advance to save disappointment.
