Travel Agents View Amadores is a newly built beach front resort and features a stunning beach area which makes it especially perfect for those sun seeking holiday makers.

The beach is rarely over crowded and offers a clean and safe place for children to play and swim. Behind the beach there is a variety of bars and restaurants for visitors to enjoy.

The airport is approx 50km from Amadores.

Insider's View

Gran Canaria Insider When I first came to live in Puerto Rico this area was nothing more than a piece of brown, boulder-strewn land inter-spliced by a hot and arid pathway which led through the ravine where I used to walk my dog. Then along came the constructors and Amadores became another rocks to riches story in the south of Gran Canaria.

Now, it's a sparkling white Caribbean-style beach backed by numerous bars and restaurants and no dogs allowed. I'd be well satisfied with Amadores as my holiday destination if I'd never been to the island before. Its pristine; the sand and sea impeccable, the hotels new and luxurious. There's not a lot more one could honestly want for.

Shops are non-existent apart from a couple of souvenir places and a boutique or two with some very nice quality swimwear.

Restaurants are too plentiful to chose from and have a tendency to vie for your attention as you saunter by.

Ciao Ciao is without a doubt my favourite place to eat on Amadores Beach. You can't beat winding spaghetti al pesto onto your fork while admiring the sea-view though it can be a bit messy unless you practice a bit. Ciao Ciao's food is top class, authentic Italian and their home-made ice-cream is worth a mention on your postcards if you can stop licking it long enough to stick the stamps on.

Over half of the businesses here close well before sundown, so it goes without saying, there's not a lot of night-time noise. No blaring bars or disco pubs anywhere in the vicinity.

If you want a rowdy hoe-down you'll have to taxi it into Puerto Rico, but it's not expensive and won't set you back more than four Euros. If you want to walk off your dinner then there's a promenade running the length of the coast between Amadores and Puerto Rico. It's safe to walk and well lit even after dark.

If I had to chose a favourite spot in the south, it'd be here. Why? From Amadores there's an uninterrupted view over to the neighbouring island of Tenerife. Right next to the mini-golf course is a brilliant place for seeing the setting rays of the sun silhouette the craggy peaks of Mount Teide. It gets even better in the winter months when you can see the snow glistening on the summit. Insider Sig
